ABOUT 99 Constitution Lane

The aim of this project is to deepen Nigerians, both on ground and in the diaspora with a deeper social, historical and civic relationship to Nigeria’s 99 constitution by translating it into Pidgin English, the most widely spoken lingua franca or market language in Nigeria and its diaspora. Our aim is to ideally translate the document in full or the key segments and make these publicly on this website initially and in any other platforms that are viable, while sharing content related to the constitution as well as events around our work and the constitution as a frame and document that has shaped our identity in the past twenty years and before. We hope to develop an enjoyable and viable project that makes a long-lasting and valuable contribution to Nigeria’s civic space. The project has been conceptualised by Jebujene Africa, the civic engagement arm of Jebujene Media, and its founder, Dele Meiji Fatunla. The translation into Pidgin English is being undertaken by Dr. Eghosa Imasuen, co-founder of Narrative Press, and author of the novel, Fine Boys, among other work.
